Dressing from the Heartland

Ingredients

  • 1½ cups onion, chopped
  • 1½ cups celery, diced
  • 1½ cups green pepper, diced
  • ½ cup margarine
  • 12 slices dried bread, cubed
  • 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon sage
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ cup turkey giblet broth, prepared ahead of time and refrigerated (See “Love Your Leftovers” section for recipe)

Directions

  1. In medium skillet, over medium-high heat, saute onion, celery and green pepper in margarine until tender.

  2. In large bowl, combine onion mixture, bread cubes, poultry seasoning, salt, sage, pepper and broth. Mix well. Spoon dressing into lightly greased 2-quart casserole dish.

  3. Bake, covered, at 325 °F for 45 to 50 minutes until internal temperature as checked by food thermometer reaches 165 °F. Uncover during last 5 minutes of baking time.
